Lecture: Yarn Substitutions

Online Zoom meeting

Sometimes we begin a project with the yarn specified in the pattern; other times, for any number  of good reasons, we don’t. But choosing the right yarn can make all the difference in a happy experience and a successful result. In this presentation Kate Atherley will focus on how fiber, texture, and color figure in our choices, to help us make decisions when substituting yarns. Kate is known in knitting circles for her careful attention to details, evident in her writing, editing and designing. What she has learned through her work holds nuggets of information useful for any fiber artist who uses yarn.

Online Workshop: Yarn Substitutions for Knitters
Wednesday, April 14 at 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Pacific

Following on from the guild program lecture, this one hour workshop will address how knitters approach a pattern when the designer’s yarn choice is not available, or for some reason not desirable. Yarn weight, gauge, and other criteria necessary to consider will be reviewed. There will also be an opportunity for participants to present challenges they are facing in choosing yarn suitable for a pattern, or patterns suitable for a treasured commercial or handspun yarn.

Who should take this workshop?

  • Knitters of all experience levels are welcome.
  • Anyone who knits and wants good results matching pattern to yarn!
  • Strong and stable internet, and some facility with the features of Zoom will enable participants to learn the most.
