Lynn Noble – September 2022
Get ready to explore the exciting possibilities of dye painting yarn with guild member, Lynn Noble!
Lynn has always been interested in creating with fibers. At an early age, Lynn sewed her own clothes, following how the women in her family expressed their creativity. Later, the knowledge of fabrics, of their origins and composition, became a source of fascination, along with combining history, art, and science to produce unique textiles.
Lynn thrives on the processes of dyeing and weaving to transform basic yarn fibers into distinctive visual and tactical forms of color and design. Each piece she creates is both an extension from the past, where she’s come from, as well as a preview of the future, and has become a lifelong exploration.
Description: Spend a few hours right after our guild meeting on Wednesday, September 7th in a hands-on workshop on how to work with fiber reactive dyes for direct application to cotton and rayon-type yarns. These are cold water dyes, so there’s no cooking involved!
Beginning with color inspiration tools, you’ll learn about how these dyes work, how to safely measure and mix them to get predictable results, and how to quickly transform drab yarns into colorful elements to create the ‘wow’ factor for your weaving and knitting projects.
Students will be provided yarns of their choice; enough warp for sampling and a scarf, or an equivalent amount in a skein. The result will be a unique, variegated hand-dyed yarn, ready for your next one-of-a-kind project –just in time for holiday gift-giving or the guild’s Holiday Sale!
Wear old clothes, shoes, and an apron, and bring a sack lunch.
