Brigitta Phy is a 4th generation rug hooker who grew up in Vermont but has made her home in Sonoma County the last 35 years. She has been hooking for almost 30 years, and designs and dyes the wool and velvet for most of her pieces. She has taught numerous workshops up and down the west coast as well as in Canada. She finds her favorite inspirations in nature but dabbles in many artistic styles through her hooked art rugs.
Brigitta Phy will lecture about the art of rug hooking, covering the history of this traditional fiber art, how the art form has changed over the years, the tools of the craft and how to use them, and a visual feast of hand hooked rugs and all the different ways to make hooked pieces shine
Brigitta will teach an optional workshop in the afternoon

Curious about Rug Hooking? Join Brigitta for a fun, exciting introduction to this traditional fiber art. Students will learn the fundamentals of rug hooking as they hook a sassy snail, 6″ x 6″, choosing their own colors. The workshop will cover the basics of hooking, tools and materials, finishing techniques, and resources. You will learn a new skill while being creative with color, and discover the wonderful world of rug hooking.
All students will receive a beginner instruction booklet with photos
Instructor will provide the pattern, wool, hook and embroidery hoop to each student that they can take home with them and is included in the price of the class.
Optional additional materials: Instructor will bring a small selection of hand-dyed wool sold by the 16th of a yard for $5 each, as well as some small patterns for various prices from $39-$55.
Students should bring a pair of small scissors.
